How will I introduce my problem?

I will open the lesson by defining the events of the Civil War in preparation for our study of this period. In addition, I will recap information previously shared on the Reform Movement to facilitate a class discussion about the overall movement, timelines, and events which served as pre-civil war events. As the students relay information regarding the movement, I will create a list on the SmartBoard.

Possible activities students need to complete to be able to do their project

- Reformists were generally centered in the North, and the Conservative South which generally lagged behind. How did the disparity between the North and South contribute further to the social and political tensions of the pre-Civil War? In your group, design a graph or chart to display your findings.

- Students will create a timeline or milestone of common characteristics of religious revivalism and new moralist beliefs of the age in their analysis of events which may have caused the outbreak of the Civil War.

Possible projects to demonstrate the collaborative group's final product

Project presentations will be made by each group. The groups can create a digital video of their results, a 3D game, a simultation, or any teacher approved method. The teams will complete and submit a Project Planning Chart based on teacher established timeline to insure progress of and completion of project. Resources needed must be communicated to the teacher via email or the discussion page of the teachers wiki page.
